Brazil delivered the performance their tournament needed, beating Scotland 3-0 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami to win Group C and head into the round of 32 with momentum. Vinícius Júnior was the difference, scoring twice either side of a composed team display, with Matheus Cunha adding a third after the break.

How the game unfolded

Brazil started fast. Vinícius Júnior opened the scoring in the 7th minute, cutting in from the left and finishing low past the Scotland goalkeeper. The Seleção controlled possession and territory, and just as Scotland looked to have weathered the first half, Vinícius struck again in first-half stoppage time (45’+3’) to make it 2-0 at the break.

The contest was effectively settled just past the hour when Matheus Cunha made it 3-0 in the 60th minute, capping a flowing Brazilian move. Steve Clarke’s Scotland kept battling but could not find a way back into the game.

Brazil and Morocco — who beat Haiti 4-2 in the day’s other Group C game — both finish on seven points, with Brazil top on goal difference. Both advance to the round of 32. Scotland finish third on three points and now wait to learn whether they are among the eight best third-placed teams, while Haiti are eliminated.

What it means

For Brazil, this was a statement: a clean sheet, a star turn from Vinícius and top spot secured. For Scotland, the dream is not over yet — a third-place finish in a strong group could still be enough, but it is now out of their hands. The full day’s results are in our June 24 recap.
